Welcome to Universitas!
I created Universitas to share my journey through astrophysics and astrophotography. As a physicists, I have been an avid amateur astronomer all my life, but I’ve had to take many breaks. In April 2025 I decided to return to the hobby and take the plunge and buy my first astrophography rig. Since then it has been a very steep learning curve with much learnt, and a vast amount yet to learn. I am very much in the amateur camp when it comes to astrophotography, but with this site I hope to bring a little knowledge to others with an interest in the hobby starting their own journeys. My interest is primarily astrophysics. Astrophotography allows me to capture my own images allowing me a platform to examine and explain astrophysical phenomenon. If I can create an interesting image along the way, it’s a bonus!
I live in Cork city, southern Ireland (Bortle 7) where clear skies are as rare as hen’s teeth. This environment presents relatively few opportunities to capture the night sky, so mastering my equipment and techniques is quite a challenge and will continue to be. I owe a debt of gratitude to the wider astrophysics and astrophotography community for their help and encouragement, and hopefully I can give a little back.
